Over the past 10 years, we have a growing number of portable electronic devices for communication and collaboration an easy task.

Mobile phones now do more than make calls, small handheld devices allow you to keep in touch with work while on the road call.

Need to check and e-mail or maybe a spreadsheet? No problem.

So now take a new class of mobile devices, the portability of a handheld, but the functionality of a laptop.

Meetingthe UMPC or Ultra Mobile PC, as it is otherwise known.

Originally called "Project Origami" from Microsoft, the first units have begun to hardware manufacturers like Samsung and Sony, in May 2006 the ship.

You can view the original Microsoft TV "teaser" here:

We take the Samsung Q1 as an example.

It weighs about 780g and has a 900MHz Celeron M ULVProcessor with 512 MB of RAM. It 'a standard 7-inch 800 x 480 screen that is larger than the Sony Playstation Portable is popular, and is powered by a more than reasonable Intel i915 graphics chipset with power GMS.

Now the important issue of connectivity. 802.11b and Bluetooth wireless connectivity will be made available, while solid compound is in the form of 2 USB 2.0 ports, LAN port, Compact Flash II slot and a VGA-out.

The built-in stereo speakers work fine and the hard drive 40 GBprovides ample space away from home or office while.

All this hardware is useless without an operating system and it is here that the Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 comes in. But that's not all ...

The UMPC is a key element of the package Touch. This is on top of the operating system and allows the screen as a touch-screen UMPC style, why not use the keyboard (although it was purchased and connected, if necessary.)

If you are familiar with using a PDAThey are accustomed to using technology for handwriting recognition, and this is UMPC. However, Touch Pack interface allows a new function. Called the dial key there is a specific software for the UMPC that you wrote your thumb on a keyboard touch-screen display in a corner of portable device use.

Overall, the UMPC is a great concept and hopefully just as useful in reality.
